A little over a year after it dumped niche distributors Agate Technology and Intrepid Distribution in favour of big gun Tech Pacific, Crystal Decisions has added ACA Pacific to its distribution fold.
ACA Pacific has been a Crystal Reports (formerly Seagate Software) sub-distributor under Tech Pacific for some time, confirmed Crystal Decisions partner manager Rhody Burton. However, the agreement marks the first time the vendor has had a direct relationship with the specialist storage distributor.
"Agate and Intrepid were doing a good job, but they are boutique distributors and there's only so far you can go with boutique. To get where we want to go, we need a big, national distributor like Tech Pacific. The time for niche has gone and the time for national is here," Paul Jenkinson, the then Seagate Software channel manager, told ARN in an interview last year.
Twelve months on Crystal Decisions does not apologise for the decisions its made, but rather claimed increased demand for the Crystal Reports software had "forced" the vendor to increase its reach through a distribution agreement with ACA Pacific.
The agreement coincides with the launch of the latest version of Crystal Reports and Burton claims the vendor is optimistic about leveraging ACA Pacific's "loyal" reseller base.
Meanwhile, ACA Pacific claims the agreement will broaden its storage offerings to include data reporting and analysis.
"In addition to providing solutions to store data, we can now offer our reseller partners the solutions to effectively analyse and report on the stored data," director of ACA Pacific HB Tan said.
