Retailers will now be able to offer prepaid SMS to their customers thanks to a new product from Web services outfit DistributeIT.
The company has inked a distribution deal with Tech Pacific for its Click’nGo! Web-to-mobile short message service.
The Click’nGo! brand was started by IT distributor Magnafield, which was bought by the ASX-listed Web developer MultiEmedia in 2001. Former Magnafield marketing manager Alex Woerndle and general manager Carl Woerndle took the Click’nGo business over in July 2002 and established Distribute IT, offering domain name registrations and Web services to resellers around the world. The company was granted domain name accreditation from the Australian Domain Authority late last year and also provides Web security products and services.
The Click’nGo service has been offered through ShellTouch terminals at service stations around the country, but the deal with Tech Pacific is Distribute IT’s first product for the retail market.
“We are bundling the service as a prepaid card for retail so consumers can send SMS messages at a cheap rate,” said Distribute IT director Alex Woerndle. “It adds a lot of features that mobile phones don’t offer at up to half the price.”
Woerndle said the product was already attracting interest from a number of companies. “The early signs have been very good,” he said. “We have had undertakings from a number of major of retailers for the product.”
Distribute IT is also working to provide integration and services for the corporate end of the market, and will release new products over the next couple of months.
