expotech, the annual reseller event held by distributor Tech Pacific, will roll into Hobart for the first time this year before moving on to Melbourne later in the month.
The conference will be held at the Hotel Grand Chancellor in Hobart on May 28, and will see 17 of Tech Pacific's largest vendors looking to educate resellers about upcoming product releases. Over 180 Tasmanian resellers have registered so far for the event, a result Tech Pac is particularly happy with considering it is expotech's maiden voyage to the Apple Isle.
On May 30, the conference will move on to Melbourne Convention Centre, where more than 50 vendors will pitch to Victorian resellers. All the large vendors such as Compaq, HP, IBM, Toshiba and Sony will be manning stands, as will a variety of Tech Pacific's other hardware and software vendors, including 3M, Adobe, Filemaker, NetGear, Palm and Veritas.
This year Microsoft will host a theatrette within the expo to promote the launch of Windows XP, which hits the shelves on June 1.
Over 880 resellers have registered for the Melbourne event, but both shows are not sold out. Those resellers who have not registered are encouraged to register at the door on the night.
Tech Pacific events coordinator Katrina Wood said all the stands will be manned by both sales and technical staff, so resellers can be informed about upcoming products and have their questions answered about existing lines.
"The main objective of expotech is to provide the opportunity for resellers to network with vendors and find out any information they need," Wood said. "It also helps us build a better relationship with resellers so they continue to choose us over our competitors."
Wood said the event continues to exceed expectations, with vendors booking out the conference at the start of the year. "In four years we've gone from small hotels to convention centres," she said.
