The APC business has moved firmly along following the acquisition by Schneider Electric, according to Pacific vice-president, Paul Tyrer.
With more than half a decade passing since the acquisition, Tyrer said the former APC organisation has a clearer role within the Schneider Electric family that before.
“We have all of these different technologies that we bring to market which relate to buildings and physical infrastructure,” he said.
“We’ve taken on those technologies as they relate to IT and are being added to datacentres.”
In recent months, Tyrer said APC has been sizing up opportunities for the channel to bring wider Schneider Electric technologies to market that would historically not go through the channel.
“We’re now providing access to those through resellers,” he said.
Tyrer recognises that there is a big shift in the IT market towards the Cloud with hosting environments, and said Schneider Electric is well positioned to capitalise on the opportunities.
“If we were a small UPS company as we were five or six years ago outside of Schneider Electric, I wonder how we would be doing now if we weren’t a part of the wider Schneider Electric network with everything else we can bring to play,” he said.
Tyrer adds that the company invests a lot into R&D, so further announcements can be expected at the back end of this year, particularly in terms of the vendor’s single and three phase UPS products.
When it comes to Schneider Electric’s channel strategy, Tyrer said there are more channel players participating and supporting non-traditional APC products, such as software and mechanical products.
“We’re seeing new areas of business come to us as we open up product portfolios to markets they have not had access to before,” he said.
Historically, APC has had exclusive distribution with a single partner in Australia, but following the acquisition by Schneider Electric, that is no longer exclusive and has been opened up to new partners.
Whilst APC's long standing distribution partners in Australia remain, the acquisition by Schneider Electric opened up further opportunities in new markets through a more diverse partner community.
“It is generating more access to us for a wider base of specialists in various IT environments,” he said.
