Sony deploys Macquarie Telecom infrastructure

Telco delivers mobile and data network services across Sony’s A/NZ fleet

Electronic products vendor, Sony Australia, has selected telecommunications vendor, Macquarie Telecom (ASX: MAQ) to deliver mobile and data network services across its A/NZ fleet.

The partnership will also see Sony Australia host hybrid infrastructure in Macquarie Telecom’s Intellicentre 2.

Sony A/NZ infrastructure and operations manager, David Cooley, said the new deal marks the latest stage in a six-year relationship between the two companies, and sees Macquarie Telecom establish itself as the sole vendor for Sony Australia’s telecommunications portfolio.

Cooley claimed that Sony selected Macquarie Telecom based on its customer service and strategic consultancy, its Management Tools portfolio, and its mobile offering in terms of carrier choice, billing framework, and price.

“We were in need of more flexibility and choice to support our broader Asia-Pacific IT requirements in an optimal way,” he said.

“Not only did we lack basic visibility or responsiveness over our network and routers but we also had to manage a siloed billing process which meant IT personnel were spending up to 3 days manually processing data and network costs.”

Cooley mentioned that the solution has already helped Sony Australia reduce monthly mobile costs by up to 50 per cent and consolidate its five networks within a single-infrastructure solution.

“Not only have we streamlined our disparate networks and their costs under the one umbrella, but we’ve also enabled multi-carrier availability over each of our six New Zealand operating locations, ensuring continuous uptime for our critical operations,” he added.
