Channel advice online
Channel Enablers, the channel management consultancy set up by former Ingram Micro executive Braham Shnider, has now moved its advice onto the Web with the launch of ChannelPRO Online. ChannelPRO Online is a regularly updated Web-based toolkit designed to assist vendors with advice and materials required to achieve their channel management objectives. The subscription-only service is sold either at an individual, national or regional level for each company.
Storage on the cheap
Compaq Computer has begun shipping a new storage product that brings some of the company's higher-end data protection tools down to a less expensive piece of hardware. The Smart Array Cluster Storage system was designed to give users features such as backup fans and redundant power supplies in a low-end product that can complement the company's ProLiant servers. The new storage product starts at $US6500 for the cabinet. Users can add up to 14 drives in the cabinet, pushing their storage capacity close to 1TB. The Smart Array Cluster Storage system is now shipping with worldwide availability.
Paul Twomey, former chief executive officer of the National Office for the Information Economy (NOIE), has found a new niche for IT services following the introduction of new privacy legislation in Australia. In October 2000, Twomey and former Clinton adviser Ira Magaziner established Argo Pacific, an investment and advisory firm for regional IT businesses. They have now moved on to establish Privacy Solutions Asia Pacific, licensing US-developed technology that manages privacy rules in databases. Twomey touts that the technology enables users to store, retrieve and separate personally identifiable data distinctly from other record data in order to comply with the privacy legislation introduced in December 2001.
