Alcatel launches Alcatel OmniTouch Unified Communication software suite

<p>First unified communication solution to implement the latest Internet technologies (XML/SOAP, SIP and VXML)</p>
<p>Couran Cove, Qld – Sunday, March 21, 2003 – Alcatel has today launched the Alcatel OmniTouch Unified Communication software suite in Australia. This server-based software application is designed to optimise business communication because it lets communication tools and applications work together seamlessly. This improves human interactions and increases productivity by allowing employees to access information and business tools using any device – regardless of the location.</p>
<p>Alcatel OmniTouch Unified Communication suite is the first unified communication solution to implement the latest Internet technologies (i.e., XML/SOAP, SIP and VXML). This minimises capital expenditure by enabling a simplified and cost effective integration of communication functions into web services, providing knowledge workers with a richer, more personalised communication environment with relevant business context.</p>
<p>This also means businesses can more easily manage communications, improve customer relationships, increase employee productivity and provide true mobility to field employees. Alcatel OmniTouch Unified Communication accomplishes this by setting communications access policies and permissions, aggregating and compiling messages into a single view and providing multi-device access to information.</p>
<p>For example, if an employee is stuck in traffic she can manage her emails and voice mails from her mobile phone by using text to speech and speech recognition. She can also manage her agenda and call customers from her personal address books.</p>
<p>The Alcatel OmniTouch Unified Communication suite includes three applications:
· My Messaging – A VXML-based unified messaging application handling non-real-time communications with a single multi-media mailbox (voicemail, email and faxes). It enables remote access to email via phone with Text-to-Speech (TTS) capabilities and lets users print or broadcast email and faxes by voice command and offer message notification filters.
· My Phone – An XML/SOAP-based real-time communications management tool that transforms any phone into a business phone when on the move giving access to full telephony features (eg. conference calling, unified directory access, and call log)
· My Assistant – A web- and VXML-based ‘find-me-follow-me’ call routing and permissions application that defines when, where and by whom to be contacted and diverts non-urgent calls to voice mail. Screens and intelligently routes calls based on caller ID and time of day.</p>
<p>Alcatel OmniTouch Unified Communication is tightly integrated with the popular Alcatel OmniPCX Enterprise line of communication servers to deliver new features, improved organisational processes and enhanced business value.</p>

The Alcatel OmniTouch Unified Communication software applications run on a common J2EE interaction engine. The integrated applications deliver business process continuity for mobile professionals by providing users targeted information with business context to help make critical decisions.</p>
