Vodafone will be abolishing the 3 brand from August 30 and is giving customers three months to move off the service.
Vodafone director of customer care, Cormac Hodgkinson, said the closure of the 3 brand and the end of its roaming agreement with Telstra in June, finalises the 3-Vodafone merger and marked a new era for VHA.
“We really appreciate the loyalty our 3 customers have shown over the years and we know many will be sad to say goodbye, as will many members of our team at Vodafone Australia who have been with the company since the beginning,” Hodgkinson, said.
3 customers have been using the Vodafone network since August last year, and will now be required to pick up a new Vodafone SIM and plan, to continue using the same handset and number.
The telco stated it will contact 3 customers directly in the coming weeks to see if they need help making the switch to Vodafone, including the 1 percent of remaining 3 customers who will be significantly impacted by the end of the Telstra roaming agreement.
“Vodafone has worked hard over the past three years to ensure our communications with customers are honest, open and timely. We are really looking forward to welcoming our remaining 3 customers over to Vodafone,” he said.
3 and Vodafone merged in 2009, creating Vodafone Hutchison Australia (VHA). At this time, it was announced that the two brands would create a single network under the global Vodafone brand, allowing VHA to avoid doubling up on billing systems, support processes and enabling a more consistent customer experience.
Last week, Vodafone announced a network expansion program, adding to mobile coverage.
