Sourcefire tracks malware with added trajectory capabilities

Security vendor incorporates new trajectory functions into its protection portfolio

Sourcefire has introduced malware trajectory capabilities across its advanced malware protection portfolio.

The addition will enable malware outbreaks to be better detected, remediated and controlled through detailed visibility into attack activity.

Sourcefire regional director, Chris Wood, said the move is a significant evolution from where the security vendor was with its IPS/IDS (intrusion prevention system/intrusion detection system) products when it started.

“Malware is a growing issue, and we use our Cloud intelligence backend to interrogate what comes into the network to see if it is bad and block it,” he said.

“By doing so, we can actually stop the malware at the gateway before it arrives at the endpoint.”

Wood said the feature had been in the works for a while and is a reaction to the ever changing “industrialisation of hacking.”

“As a result, we continue to innovate in order to provide the best protection for our customers,” he said.

In addition to detect where malware is moving around the network, Wood said it was important to tie that into the endpoint to find out what has taken hold in that sapce.

“We have our FirePOWER platform, and on that platform we have the malware component as well,” he said.

“While we have advanced malware protection at the endpoint, it made sense to also put protection on the network which acts as a gateway.”
