Following its launch in Japan in February, information security services provider, Dell SecureWorks, is now moving into the Australian and New Zealand (A/NZ) market as part of the first phase of its Asia-Pacific (APAC) expansion strategy.
Dell SecureWorks offers managed security services, threat intelligence, security and risk consulting, and incident response and digital forensics services. The SecureWorks brand was acquired by Dell in 2011.
According to Dell SecureWorks global business executive director, Drew Harris, A/NZ was selected as the second expansion market due to parent company Dell’s existing footprint in the region, as well as its strong services and software presence.
Asia-Pacific and Japan security and risk consulting director, Alan White – who is based in Japan – said SecureWorks will deliver its services in three tiers. First is through its incidence response and forensics practice whereby it will leverage global capability and reach to work with A/NZ customers in dire situations, as well as proactively before a breach.
Its second customer delivery strategy is through testing services which enable clients to view applications, perform tests, look at mobile devices and how mobile applications are used, and how Cloud technology is being used.
Thirdly, White said SecureWorks will look to introduce a security program; a compliance services area which considers and addresses local laws and regulations. This can be expected in future expansion points as well.
White believes SecureWorks’ differentiator is its global presence; it has more than 3000 clients in over 70 countries into which it has visibility, he said.
“We have the ability to say ‘we have this much visibility all over the world, and can apply that intelligence to you in your region’, something many local competitors cannot do,” he said.
Local team for the channel and customers
The new setup will see SecureWorks establish a team in Australia to serve as a local point of contact for both customers and partners. The company is looking at about 15 to 25 people in order to cover the baseline of services. This number will contain both ‘Jacks Of All Trades’ and specialised staff.
White said the local presence will enable channel partners to fill the gaps in creating a complete solution for customers; Dell also hopes to leverage partners in order to expand its market play and reach in the local region.
Similarly to Dell’s other brands, SecureWorks will operate through both a direct and channel model in A/NZ.
