Optimus G Pro set for Aussie launch?

LG lodges Australian trade mark application for Optimus G Pro

LG continues to deny it will release the Optimus G Pro Android phone in Australia despite lodging an Australian trade mark application for the device.

Australian trade mark blog TM Watch discovered the application, which was lodged on Thursday 11 April.

The trade mark is for the word "LG Optimus G Pro" and subsequent logo. It is currently marked as "indexing approved" and is lodged under the Class 9 category.

The description of this category covers a number of portable devices including "telephone sets", "portable communications apparatus", and "mobile phones".

The trade mark comes as after LG told PC World Australia back in January that the device would not be sold Down Under.

A company spokesperson has refused to comment, only issuing the same generic statement.

"The Optimus G Pro is not planned for release in the Australian market. We will of course update you if this changes."

The Optimus G Pro is an upgrade to the original Optimus G, which LG launched exclusively through Telstra back in March.

LG currently sells the Optimus G Pro in Japan through Japanese telco NTT Docomo, while the device launches through AT&T in the US on Friday 10 May.
