Datacom sells Asia BPO assets for $20 million

It will retain an Asian presence through its systems integration business

Datacom has sold its Asia-based business process outsource (BPO) assets for $20 million to US-based Convergys.

The transaction involves Datacom’s BPO assets in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia and Manila, Philippines.

Datacom plans to retain a presence in Asia through its systems integration business and will also maintain and invest in its BPO business in A/NZ.

The deal with Convergys was reached after a six month competitive process, Datacom Group CEO, Jonathan Ladd, said. He added Convergys would continue to invest in key client relationships.

In 1995, Datacom opened in Asia, building a multi-site Asia BPO asset with 850 staff and long term clients.

“Our Asia BPO business had reached a tipping point and now requires a global specialist to take the business to the next level,” Ladd said. “This divestment and renewed focus on our strategically poised Asia Systems business will strengthen our capacity for expansion and acquisition investment in our other growth areas.”

The sale is expected to close at the end of this month.
