Networked digital lifestyle vendor, BenQ, has appointed Martin Moelle to the newly created role of managing director and sub-regional head.
For the Australian operations, Moelle replaces Chee Fui Chung, who has returned to the head office in BenQ Taiwan, after serving in the local headquarters for four years.
Moelle will direct BenQ’s Australian operations, as well as oversee its operations within the Japan and Korea regions.
Moelle, an Australian native, will return to Sydney from Japan, where he previously held the position of BenQ Japan managing director for seven years.
According to Moelle, taking on this newly created position has provided him with an opportunity to return to Australia in a high profile role.
“It’s an exciting time for me to return, working with a great team of people and with a number of BenQ products scheduled for release over the next few years. I take on the responsibility of growing sales and brand presence in this market with great enthusiasm,” he said.
Moelle mentioned the company created four sub-regions to get the efficiencies in business and geographically streamline the operations of BenQ Asia-Pacific.
The four territories are: A/NZ, Korea and Japan; Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia and Singapore; India, Sri Lanka and the sub-continents; and Turkey, Middle East and Africa.
“A/NZ, Korea and Japan are developed countries and we can create synergies in those countries as opposed to countries such as Indonesia, Thailand, Malaysia and Singapore, which are developing markets. The types of products we sell there, the way we go to market and the way we sell is different,” he said.
Moelle claimed his plans for the Australian operations include sales and product line expansion.
“Our core business is projector and LCD monitors, which we’re refining. Some products which we’re expanding today is large format displays used for education or digital signage, and then we have some new products to be announced soon,” he said.
He also claimed the company is also looking to expand on its home theatre and gaming monitor ranges as well as its interactive product range in the coming months.
Moelle’s first goal is to grow the business with its current channel partners, and then expand on that base as it brings in new products.
He said there will be structural changes within the organisation in the long-term, especially as the company expands its sales.
“Some of the product categories that we’re introducing here is very specific and you can’t just have one product manager taking care of the whole range of products. So as we bring in new products, we’ll be increasing staff in that area.”
Prior to joining BenQ, Moelle was managing director for TDK Australia for a period of fourteen years and its procurement senior buyer at TDK Recording Media Europe S.A. for three years before that.
