Google Australia boss Nick Leeder relocates to France

Google seeking replacement

Google has confirmed that its A/NZ managing director, Nick Leeder, has quit his role and will relocate to France to head its French business.

Leeder’s work in A/NZ did not go unnoticed and he was approached by Google Europe management to head Google France and step up to the opportunities available with the bigger French market.

He is expected to take on the position of Google country manager in France by early April, after holding the A/NZ position for more than two years.

The move has triggered Google to seek a suitable candidate internally and externally to fill the role.

It has also put up an advertisement on Google jobs for a “charismatic leader and successful people manager” that has the ability to “manage Google’s A/NZ operations, including the development and execution of the overall A/NZ strategy.”

The current A/NZ management team will divide the responsibilities and ensure that the company’s focus proceeds as planned until a replacement is found.

“My time with Google A/NZ has been one of the highlights of my career. The team here is doing tremendous things to help local partners, advertisers, and users. It’s been an honour to be part of it. I look forward to watching Google’s contribution to A/NZ grow in the coming years,” Leeder said in a statement.

He has formerly worked as the deputy CEO at the Australian. Prior to that, he served as chief operating officer at Fairfax Digital and engagement manager at McKinsey and Company.

Leeder has described himself as a French speaker in his LinkedIn profile, where he also states to be a MBA graduate from the INSEAD graduate business school in France.
