Lenovo A/NZ vice-president and regional general manager, Alan Munro, is leaving the company after eight years in the job.
Current A/NZ executive director and transactional business leader, Matt Codrington, will step in as acting regional general manager.
The change will take effect on March 31.
Lenovo said, in a statement, that Munro has “made a decision to leave the company and apply his experience and skills elsewhere in the market.”
Munro has worked for IBM and Lenovo for more than a quarter century, and was involved in establishing the Lenovo business in A/NZ following the acquisition of the IBM PC division in 2005. He was also involved in a two-year assignment leading Lenovo UK and Ireland.
“I’ve been with Lenovo, and before that IBM, for 26 years and on the executive leadership team for a good proportion of this time. I feel it’s the right moment to dedicate my skills and expertise elsewhere,” he said.
“I’ve been thinking about this for some time and it came down to staying where I am for the rest of my term or try myself out elsewhere; I was really keen to try out something different.”
Munro has yet to decide on his next stint, claiming that he did not wish to rush into a new job opening without assessing its opportunities first.
“I want to take on something that will grow on top of my skills to wherever I can apply myself. I see my skills as being very transferable. Being in the PC business is tough but I wanted to make sure I move on at a time that was good for both Lenovo and myself.”
He claimed this was the biggest financial quarter for Lenovo in A/NZ, finishing at more than 10 per cent in profit.
Munro added that he will only be seeking opportunities within the Australian market.
“I have been turning down offers in the Asian market because of family commitments, so I would be picking something in the Australian market for now,” he said.
Codrington joined the Lenovo A/NZ team after spending four years as general manager for partner Sales in Lenovo Japan.
Prior to his role in Japan, he was based in Singapore as Lenovo Asia-Pacific director for notebooks, within the consumer products and enterprise systems group.
Codrington said he hopes his track record and knowledge of the technology industry will aid him during his term as A/NZ acting regional general manager.
