Hitachi Data Systems has signed up Data#3 as its first Australian value-added reseller.
The vendor is about to sign another VAR and one distributor next week but requires one more of each to fulfil its Channel one partner complement.
The partner agreements are part of HDS' $US300 million investment in the worldwide channel.
Data#3's managing director, John Grant, said the company accepted HDS's partnership invitation last week after extended negotiations. "HDS approached us a year ago but at that stage we felt the channel program needed to mature," he said.
Grant qualified his statement by noting vendor channel maturity comes with providing local support.
"Back then HDS was rolling the program out of the US and we waited until we felt it was workable in Australia," he said.
HDS director of Channels for Australia and New Zealand, Graeme Gleave, admitted his company was not ready for the channel when they first approached Data#3.
"Data#3 initially assessed us as a partner of interest but did not with the full commitment. Since then HDS has invested $US 300 million worldwide in channel infrastructure, Web sites, e-commerce solutions, and staffing," he said.
