Optimus grows out of direct model

What happens when an Australian software developer grows beyond its own sales capabilities - it goes looking for a national distributor and a bevy of resellers. After nearly 10 years in the market document management company Optimus Solutions has found itself doing just that.

Founded in 1992 by David Masters, the company has created a file and document management product MediaManager which is up to its fourth generation in development. It lets companies access various file formats (documents, MP3s, JPGS, MPEGs) through a Web interface. The documents can be then viewed in their native format or through the browser interface.

Christopher Millen, business development manager for Optimus, claims the company is actively signing up resellers and is in negotiations with a number of distributors for the MediaManager product.

According to Millen the product, which is built on an Oracle database, caters to both the SME and large corporate markets and prides itself on taking the complexity out of document management.

Optimus has scored a number of contracts with the likes of CSC, Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu, Ericsson, C&W Optus and law firm Blake Dawson Waldron. While the company has received strong interest from software developers and distributors in India, Millen says a bundling agreement with a server manufacture is the end-goal.
