Telstra Wholesale has released the first wholesale ADSL product for symmetric applications to provide wholesale resellers with a competitively priced, IP-based, data service that will simultaneously support voice services.
The new offering called CommerceStream, uses ADSL technology to deliver up to 512kbps upstream and downstream services. It is also Telstra's new DSL product and complements the existing FlexStream offering.
Telstra launched CommerceStream, after numerous requests from customers struggling to meet the demand of local businesses. The product is ideal for two-way applications - such as Web hosting, file transfer, multimedia, electronic commerce, educational and remote, small or home office telecommuting - which requires high upstream and downstream bandwidth. The technology operates over existing phone lines eliminating the need to install a second netwok connection.
Initially, only one speed option will be offered, but Telstra promises more options will be available in the near future. According to Rosemary Howard, Telstra Wholesale's managing director, phase 2 of CommerceStream will utilise SHDSL access technology.
"CommerceStream supports the 'buy versus build' opportunity that we offer our customers," said Howard. "Telstra's commitment to the DSL range of products is strong and we will continue to roll out more products with the ultimate goal of broadbanding Australia."
