European powerhouse services company Atos Origin has smelt its way into a lucrative five-year outsourcing contract with Capral Aluminum.
Under the terms of the agreement, Atos Origin will acquire all of Capral's IT assets and relocate them to a purpose-built computing centre in Melbourne. The centre will host and manage Capral's SAP R/3 enterprise system and its TOLAS distribution infrastructure. In addition, four Capral staff will be employed by Atos Origin.
"Capral Aluminium's decision to outsource its IT services to Atos Origin will let Capral focus on its core business and get better value from its IT services," John Gallagher, CEO of Atos Origin Australia,Despite boasting a 200 strong workforce in Australia Atos Origin has kept a low profile in the outsourcing market. Daryl Morris, general manager sales and marketing for Atos Origin, claims this is all about to change, with the services company looking to target marketing campaigns at key market verticals.
"We're not going to try and build our profile in the general market. Instead we have to be very specific in the markets we specialise in, such as manufacturing, finance and electrical, to get the best message across to [potential] customers," he said.
Atos Origin, which was formed last year when French company Atos merged with the then Philips Industries-owned Origin, has revenues of around 3 billion Euros worldwide.
Capral Aluminium, formerly known as Alcan, employs 1400 people in Australia.
