BEA prepares e-comm channel assault

BEA will launch a channel partner program in October giving licensed VARs the chance to service Weblogic application server customers, the company revealed last week.

In an exclusive interview with ARN, BEA's managing director for South Asia, Julian Quinn, said the launch of the program follows last year's acquisition of Weblogic.

BEA has made Weblogic's application server available over the Internet. A large number of people are downloading evaluation copies and they need to be serviced, Quinn said.

"BEA is looking for quality organisations with a good reputation in the market who focus on e-commerce," he said. "Just how many resellers will be needed is difficult to evaluate because it's proportional to our ability to support them."

BEA is still in the process of setting up the program so Quinn could not give extensive details of how VARs would be remunerated.

He did reveal, however, that substantial discounts will be given to accredited resellers. "The rewards are sufficient to ensure resellers will support our program."

Currently being set up is a telesales and marketing team based out of Sydney that will support channel partners in Australia, New Zealand, Malaysia and Singapore.

The call centre intends to provide technical coverage 24 hours a day, seven days a week with the sales department open from 8am to 6pm.

"We will also provide training for sales and technical staff, an accreditation program and business and marketing support," Quinn said.
