NEC S1100

NEC's S1100 is the entry-level model of its comprehensive SAN storage range, which covers everything up to enterprise needs. Designed and built by NEC, the range features reliable, high-throughput technology such as fibre-to-disk, full redundancy capabilities, and a selection of powerful management tools. NEC plans to distribute the range both directly and through selected data storage specialist resellers by the end of this quarter.

Seagate Cheetah

The Cheetah X15 36LP delivers seek times as low as 3.6 milliseconds as well as latencies of 2.0ms and can access data 28 per cent faster than 10,000rpm products. Backed by a five-year warranty, it also delivers up to 69Mbps formatted transfer rate. It is available in Ultra320 SCSI or 2Gbps fibre-channel interfaces, with a capacity of over 36GB.

Gadzoox Networks

Servex is distributing the Gadzoox Networks 2Gbps Slingshot Fibre Channel Fabric Switch range, including the Slingshot 4218 Fabric Switch. Features include 2Gbps duplex communication at each port, broad interoperability based on open standards, and 18 ports in 1U, automatically configured to support 2Gbps or 1Gbps, loop or fabric. Priced at $34,000 (ex GST) the Slingshot 4218 offers a 2Gbps fabric switch cheaper than today's 1Gbps fabric switches.

BMC Software ACSM

BMC Software's Application-Centric Storage Management (ACSM) solution allows organisations to manage their storage assets according to the application they support. Iomega NAS servers

Iomega is offering 160GB and 320GB network attached storage servers, incorporating Windows 2000 technology, multiple Ethernet connections and RAID 5 data protection. A 50-seat licence for Iomega QuikSync 3 automatic client backup software, valued at $1250, is included with Iomega NAS 320GB servers, allowing IT professionals to easily implement automatic backup through their network. A 20-seat licence is included with the Iomega NAS 160GB server. The servers are compatible with Windows, Linux/Unix, Macintosh and NetWare clients. The 320GB NAS server is available for a suggested price of $11,775 while the 160GB NAS server carries an $8275 price tag.

Veritas virtualises

Veritas SANPoint Control is an enterprise-level management tool for automatically locating, viewing and administering SAN-connected devices from a central console. SANPoint Control works with a wide range of SAN configurations, consolidating all management tasks into a single product with a single view. Veritas also offer its Volume Manager product, an enterprise-level, online storage management tool which removes the physical limitations of disk storage. Organisations can configure, share and manage storage without interrupting data availability and the cost of ownership can be reduced by building configurations that improve performance and increase data availability.

Adaptec DuraStor family

Adaptec has introduced the DuraStor family of entry-level external storage subsystems targeted at mid-sized companies with scalable storage requirements. The products are managed and configured by Adaptec's Storage Manager Pro software and backed by a service and support program. The first solution is a rack-mountable 3U SCSI external RAID subsystem - the Adaptec DuraStor 6220SS. It combines a 1U RAID appliance and a 2U storage enclosure with 12 drive bays providing fault tolerance, expandability and density normally associated with higher-end solutions. Without drives, it is priced at $15,990. As a separate unit, the DuraStor 312R storage enclosure without drives is $6990 and is available through Lan 1, Tech Pacific, Digiland and Synnex.
