The NSW government has significantly overhauled its ICT policy in a bid to improve customer service, data management, procurement and industry engagement, according to deputy premier and minister for trade and investment, Andrew Stoner, and minister for finance and services, Greg Pearce.
They were speaking at the NSW government ICT reform and industry action plan forum in Sydney.
Stoner said NSW is in a strong position for growth in the expanding global digital economy.
He mentioned that the NSW government is making significant efforts to develop a long-term vision for the industry and promote NSW’s digital sector on a global level.
“Following the establishment of a high level taskforce, a digital economy industry action plan is being finalised that will outline a vision and strategy for the digital economy in NSW over the next decade,” Stoner said.
He added that the plan will outline actions for both industry and government to encourage industry growth, development and innovation.
Pearce said the NSW government is committed to making the process easier, simpler and more cost effective for businesses to engage and connect with government agencies.
“The NSW government ICT Strategy 2012, has allowed us to foster a new relationship with the ICT industry that will deliver real improvements in service delivery for the people of NSW.
“The mandating of the ProcureIT contract allows industry to retain and take commercial advantage of intellectual property in products and services they sell to the government,” he said.
Pearce also outlined that service NSW will deliver a range of government services and transactions through a 24/7 telephone service, a customer friendly website, and one-stop-shops across the state.
“The NSW Government will ensure all departments have open government plans to outline the actions they will perform to take advantage of online and social technologies to better communicate with the public and include them in the consultation process,” he said.
