Turn-by-turn navigation in iOS 6 coming soon to Australia

Aussies to get turn-by-turn navigation in iOS 6 in October

Australian users of iOS 6 will get access to the turn-by-turn navigation feature in the Maps application next month, Apple has confirmed.

Australia was originally left off the list of countries that the turn-by-turn navigation feature would be available in but Apple has since updated its iOS 6 features list with an October availability Down Under.

Many new features of iOS 6 are not available in every country.

In addition to Australia, the turn-by-turn navigation feature will be available in Brunei, Egypt, Macau, Malaysia, Morocco, South Africa, Taiwan and Thailand next month.

Apple's new Maps application will replace the default Google Maps application in iOS 6 and includes features like directions, traffic information and local search capabilities.

The ability to display 3D buildings in navigation mode (US-only), along with business reviews and photos (selected countries) will not be available to Australian users of Maps.

Other features of iOS 6 not available to Australian users include the ability to make restaurant reservations and look up local movie times with the Siri voice assistant. Apple has confirmed that the ability to look up directions with Siri will be made available to Aussies in October.

Apple will release the iOS 6 software update on Wednesday 19 September US time, just three days ahead of the iPhone 5 launch on Friday 21 September.
