Galaxy Note 10.1 officially launches in Australia

Samsung's Galaxy Note 10.1 Android tablet is now available in Australia.

Samsung's Galaxy Note 10.1 Android tablet is now available in Australia.

The Galaxy Note 10.1, which comes with an S Pen stylus that allows users to draw and write on the screen, will initially be sold through Samsung's newly opened Experience Store in Sydney's CBD. The tablet will also be available through major retailers JB Hi-Fi and Harvey Norman this week.

Samsung confirmed the 16GB Wi-Fi only model (N8010) of the Galaxy Tab 10.1 will be the first variant to go on sale and will retail for $589 outright. 3G models (N8000) are expected to follow at a later, unannounced date, the company confirmed.

Samsung will eventually sell a 32GB Wi-Fi only model for $699, while the 16GB 3G model is likely to have a retail price of $729 and the 32GB 3G model should set you back $839. These prices have yet to be officially confirmed by Samsung but were advertised at the Experience Store launch last night.

In PC World's review of the Galaxy Note 10.1, we found the stylus and Samsung's software additions an extra element to this tablet over rival devices but the rest of the package is a little disappointing. The popularity of Samsung's Galaxy Note smartphone, which has already sold 10 million units globally, appears to be the prime motivation behind the tablet.

The Galaxy Note 10.1 borrows its name from Samsung's original Galaxy Note smartphone but it is purely a tablet device. The design of the Galaxy Note 10.1 is largely based on Samsung's Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 but comes with Samsung's S Pen which allows users to draw, annotate and write notes on the 10.1in screen.

Samsung announced the Galaxy Note 10.1 earlier this year, but upgraded many of the specifications. The tablet comes with Samsung's own Exynos processor, a quad-core 1.4GHz chip, and includes 2GB of RAM. The first version of the Galaxy Note 10.1 announced earlier this year was set to come with a dual-core processor and 1GB of RAM.
