Huawei posted operating profit of CNY8.79bn ($1.35bn) in the first half of 2012, down 22 per cent from the same period last year.
Its sales in the first half were up to CNY102.7 bn, up 5.1 per cent over the first half of 2011.
Huawei said the telecom equipment market remains a significant challenge but it continues to maintain robust growth momentum although the global economic situation and telecom equipment market remains a significant challenge.
“In 2012, Huawei outlined our new pipe strategy and we will focus even further on this approach moving forward to ensure more effective growth and greater efficiency to drive continued improvements in operating performance,” Meng Wanzhou, chief financial officer, Huawei, said in the statement. “We are relatively optimistic about our operating performance and profitability for the remainder of 2012.”
In the first half of 2012, Huawei’s three business groups (BGs) achieved considerable progress in technological innovation and market expansion, the company noted.
Huawei’s Carrier Network BG launched the GigaSite solution, which enhances capacity of individual wireless sites, and AtomCell, an integrated solution. It also deployed 38 of the 80 commercial LTE networks, which support 200m people.
Huawei now has more than 2000 channel partners worldwide, including over 200 tier-1 channel partners such as distributors and value-added partners.
