Resellers chase golden Acer goose

Acer has added two new Gold Channel partners to its newly overhauled channel strategy, appointing Corporate Express and Tops Office and Business Systems to its list of top dealers it deals with directly throughout the country.

The decision to move to a one-tier model drew cries of fury from some distributors, but Acer claims those who can earn the coveted Gold status stand to benefit from the move.

To be invited as a Gold partner, resellers and distributors must have at least two trained Acer staff and meet sales targets of at least $1 million per state annually. In exchange, resellers receive increased margins, rebates and dedicated technical and sales support.

"This partnership is expected to make a significant impact on our margins," said Marcus Heron, national sales manager at Corporate Express, Heron added the Gold dealer status would give the company the edge in deals which are particularly price sensitive."

Corporate Express is a supplier of business products and services offices throughout Australia. It also also runs an online procurements site, NetExpress.

Tops Office and Business Systems in Hobart has also earned Gold status. The Hobart-based business provider a range of hardware, software and networking services across the State. General manager Valdon Orr singled out Acer's build-to-order system as particularly attractive to the company in terms of both procurement and service.
