Avnet Technology Solutions general distribution manager, Greg Newham, has left the company.
Newham, who joined Avnet in January 2011, was with the company for one year and seven months.
Prior to that he was with itX Group Limited for 10 years rising to the position of general manager.
itX was formally acquired by Avnet for $77.5 million on January 4, 2011, but the news of the acquisition broke in August 2010.
Newham left Avnet to join marketing and advertising company, Centryc Solutions Pty Limited, as sales director, according to Avnet Asia-Pacific marketing and business innovation vice-president, Michael Costigan.
"Greg decided to leave Avnet after having helped the organisation complete the acquisition and integration of itX and Avnet," Costigan said. "He came to us and said he had some other opportunities outside of IT distribution and now that the company was through the integration he wanted to pursue them - and we didn't want to stand in his way."
Until a replacement is found, Costigan said US senior vice-president, Tony Madden, in conjunction with Costigan, will perform the duties of Newham's role. "Tony will be here for six months while we look for a new leader."
Asked the type of person he wants sitting in the general distribution manager role, Costigan said he will look for someone with strong leadership skills who can meet and exceed the expectations of new and existing business partners and suppliers.
"It is pretty hard to replace Greg - he is an IT industry icon. He was fantastic for us - he was instrumental during the acquisition and integration - particularly from a cultural point of view in bringing the companies together. He was an A1 person through it all," he said.
Costigan said Newham will be missed at the company and in the channel community. "Not only he is an industry icon, but he is a personal friend. He has great respect in the channel."
Newham is the second high profile executive to leave Avnet, recently.
A/NZ vice-president and general manager, Laurie Sellers, announced his retirement in late June.
He will leave Avnet at the end of September.
Another high profile Avnet manager, Gavin Lawless, left the company in October 2011.
