It’s better to be Red than dead when it comes to NAS (Network Attached Storage), according to Western Digital.
The storage vendor recently showcased its Red line of NAS hard drives in Sydney, which are aimed at home and small office NAS systems with one to five drive bays.
The way the NAS drives differ from Western Digital’s Green (eco-friendly), Black (performance) or Blue (reliability) line of consumer drives is that they are designed to be stable and durable, with wobbling of the plater kept to a minimum through the incorporation of weighs on the spindle.
Unlike the consumer drives, the Red series has also been tested for compatibility with leading NAS box manufacturers,
The Red hard drives are now shipping in 3.5-inch SATA form factor in sizes of one, two or three terabytes.
The opportunities highlighted for the channel with the Red series is that NAS systems typically feature up to five bays, meaning that numerous Red drives could be outfitted in a NAS system.
The NAS targeted drives are the latest addition to Western Digital’s “Power of Choice” range that allocates a dedicated colour to a range of hard drives for quick selection depending specific application or usage requirements.
