Electronic Data Systems (EDS) has cut approximately 400 jobs at A.T. Kearney, its management consulting firm.
However, the overall number of employees at EDS continues to grow, according to Jeffrey Baum, a spokesman for the technology services company. The company has 127,000 employees, up 5,000 from the beginning of the year.
"There are always points during the year when [employees] have been flowing in and out of the business. But the net numbers continue to increase," Baum said. "There are pockets where we are hiring [within] EDS and A.T. Kearney, especially in its Europe and Asia [offices]."
Baum said the reductions at A.T. Kearney were made as part of a semiannual "performance management review" process and a rebalancing of the business in response to the decreasing demand for management consulting services.
"This is what our investors ask us to do," he said.
