More than 1200 Symantec partners are now part of Symantec’s SMB Specialisation Program across the Asia-Pacific and Japan region.
With SMBs making up a significant part of the economy in regions such as Australia, the milestone in the partner network means that the vendor has a greater reach to SMB customers than before.
According to Symantec Pacific region SMB channel marketing manager, Peter Vasey, the growth of SMB Specialisation initiative is a reflection of partners wanting to work with the vendor.
“They value the support and opportunities that our program provides for their businesses,” he said.
“After all, we aren’t successful unless our partners are.”
As for what these partners will be focusing on in the coming months, Vasey sees certification as being the first step.
“These partners are passionate about SMBs and we have invested in new SMB-focused resources across Asia-Pacific and Japan, including Australia, to provide greater support than ever before to SMB-focused partners,” he said.
In particular, it is expected that these partners will work with their partner account managers and/or Symantec distributors to identify and take advantage of SMB opportunities in the market.
“By working with their Symantec reps and our distributors, these partners can plug into the SMB-focused resources at Symantec to be more successful and more profitable,” Vasey said.
When asked about why a company such as Symantec is pushing hard to provide support for SMB business customers in a region such as Australian and New Zealand, he attributes it to SMBs being the “heart” of those economies.
Quoting figures provided by the Australian Bureau of Statistics, Vasey points out that more than 99 per cent of Australian businesses employ less than 200 people.
“As our recent SMB Disaster Preparedness Survey and Internet Security Threat Report have shown, SMEs are not immune to the problems, online and off, that larger businesses face,” Vasey said.
“Without appropriate data protection and security solutions in place, the impact of some of these problems, from storms to security breaches can be fatal for small to medium-sized businesses.”
Vasey said this environment creates a “great opportunity” for Symantec SMB Specialised partners to undertake the role of a “trusted advisor” around data protection and security, as well as ensure that their SME customers are protected and secure.
