StorageTek resells Cisco storage switches

Storage Technology (StorageTek) Tuesday announced it is expanding its horizons by reselling Cisco Systems's Fibre Channel switches.

StorageTek is adding Cisco's MDS 9000 family of multilayer intelligent director-level and fabric switches to its portfolio of disk- and tape-based storage products and software.

StorageTek, in Louisville, Co., will also resell Cisco's SMARTnet service and support package.

StorageTek in the past year has pushed an information lifecycle management strategy, which it says will help customers "improve primary storage productivity, simplify backup and recovery and enable a flexible compliance and archiving architecture for today and the future."

As part of its ILM strategy, StorageTek late last year hammered out an OEM deal with Permabit Inc. to offer the start-up's Permeon content-addressable storage software to those that want compliance software and hardware.

Adding Cisco's MDS 9000 family to its portfolio lets StorageTek provide a full line of storage options.

The MDS 9000 family ranges from the MDS 9500 director-level switches to the MDS 9216 fabric switch. StorageTek also resells switches and directors from Brocade Communications Systems Inc. and McData Corp.
