Taiwanese manufacturer ATEN has announced the availability of a high-speed USB hub. The hub provides four ports that are compliant with USB 2.0, the latest connectivity standard. USB 2.0 is a standard that allows connectivity at 480MBps. Hence, it is 40 times faster than the existing USB standard (1.1), and faster than the Firewire standard (which runs at 400MBps). The new standard is backwards-compatible, however, many distributors, resellers and end users have put in the existing 1.1 standard to protect the investment. USB 2.0 is expected to be the dominant desktop standard by the end of this year.
The port supports systems using Windows 98, 98SE, 2000, ME, XP and Mac OS X or later. It is distributed by Anyware Computer Accessories and retails for $95.00.
