APP OF THE DAY: Facebook Messenger

Sleek, easy to use, and makes Facebook chatting as simple as sending a text message

It’s been a long time coming but Facebook has finally launched a messenger app.

Those that have a Facebook account (which is most people), would be familiar with the social network’s in-browser messenger. It allows users to chat in real-time to anybody logged onto Facebook. Mobile users could access it but the messenger was very awkward to use in that form.

The Facebook Messenger app caters entirely to the iPhone. It is sleek, easy to use, and makes Facebook chatting as simple as sending a text message.

Friends are easily identifiable as their Facebook profile pictures are displayed alongside their names.

The app displays chat logs that are stored on your Facebook account so as soon as you download it onto your phone you can keep track of old conversations. When starting a new conversation, you can clearly see who is online. Those that are offline but also have Facebook Messenger can still receive messages, which are pushed to their smartphones.

Facebook Messenger also includes a location feature where you can choose to disclose where you are while you talk to friends through the app.

Pros: Easy to use, convenient to track group conversations, clean layout

Cons: None that comes to mind.

Verdict: A useful tool for Facebook addicts and staying in touch with friends.
