APP OF THE DAY: TripTracker

Last year we featured FlightTracker Pro in App of the Day as a great tool to keep track of expected flights. While it’s still an awesome app, the $10 pricetag has always rubbed me the wrong way.

Which is why I was overjoyed to find a free alternative: TripTracker.

The two apps pretty much work in the same way: Enter details such as flight number and date of departure to track a particular plane in real-time.

Not only is it useful for your own travel plans but if you’re expecting a relative flying in from overseas, you can track their flight to make sure it’s not delayed and you don’t have to stand at the airport for two hours like a fool.

So TripTracker is not as pretty as FlightTracker Pro. Not really a huge deal considering the price difference.

Along with flight information, TripTracker also incorporates live weather reports, route maps, hotel, and car rental resources.

It can automatically import all the information you need on your phone to save you from re-typing details.

Pros: It’s free, it’s free, and it’s free.

Cons: It’s not as pretty to look at as FlightTracker Pro, app has not been updated since 2010.

Verdict: An all encompassing travel app that is a godsend for frequent travellers.
