Local Freight with Berger
Berger Software has announced the release of a Local Freight module to augment its successful suite of logistics applications. The new module offers users the ability to estimate the local freight cost and update sales orders with this cost or optionally apply a margin. Berger officials claim Local Freight offers significant savings in the manual effort to produce manifests, labels and consignment notes. There is also an improvement in the company's cash flow, achieved by billing the freight charges prior to receiving the carrier's invoice.
PeopleSoft expands HR
PeopleSoft is developing three new modules for its human resources management software and expanding its line of CRM (customer relationship management) software for vertical industries, the company announced last week. The new HR software modules will cover enterprise learning management, performance management and sales incentive management, PeopleSoft said. The enterprise learning management tool is scheduled for release in the first quarter of 2003, while the performance management and sales incentive management modules are planned for worldwide release at the end of this year. Pricing is yet to be determined.
Web designers in court
Adobe Systems opened its courtroom arguments against Web design rival Macromedia last week in a US federal court. The two companies accuse each other of patent infringement for Web design software tools. Adobe claims that Macromedia violates two of its patents on tabbed palettes, which provide a user interface for displaying several sets of information in the same space. Macromedia countered with a claim that Adobe infringes on Macromedia's patents for a draw-based editor for Web pages and a hierarchical structure editor for Web sites. Macromedia rejects Adobe's patent-infringement claims, insisting that Adobe's patents are unenforceable. Neither company was available for comment.
