Classic Blue buys Adelaide data centre

Disaster Recovery specialist, Classic Blue, has paid between $4 and $6 million to acquire one of Adelaide’s largest data centres from St George Bank.

The move sees Classic Blue play landlord to ASX listed web hosting company, Hostworks, a company that leases the facility.

The Kidman park facility was built by the now-defunct Bank of SA for $20 million, is highly secure and power/connectivity redundant. Its most recent owner, St George Bank, had been using the premises for data processing, but sold the complex to move its staff to a new location.

Classic Blue managing director, Adrian Bogatez, said the Kidman Park facility was larger than the company’s data centres in Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane.

He said the new real estate was likely to win the disaster recovery company some South Australian-based business, and had already yielded a high profile customer to be announced in the coming weeks.

Hostworks would remain a tenant under similar terms as it had previously held with St George Bank, Bogatez said.
