Samsung confirms Foxtel business deal

Smart TV launch event used to confirm rumours while showcasing products

Consumer electronics vendor, Samsung Electronics Australia, has confirmed that recent rumours regarding a business deal with Foxtel are true.

The official announcement was made earlier tonight at the vendor's SmartTV launch.

The deal means that consumers will have access to an in-built Foxtel application which can be accessed for movies, sports, and television from the Foxtel service, via IP.

Consumers do not need to purchase a Foxtel set top box to use the function, but they will not be able to use features such as recording, for example, that it offers.

The launch, held in Woolloomooloo, Sydney, showcased a new range of LED and plasma SmartTVs which offer a wide range of entertainment through content, application, and user interaction.

More details to come.
