Altech is claiming it will offer one of the cheapest motherboards on the market after reaching a distribution agreement to supply entry-level boards from Foxconn.
One of the world's largest PC peripheral makers, Foxconn manufactures parts for many large industry brands including Dell, Intel and Sony PlayStation.
Altech plans to differentiate itself from the two existing Australian distributors of Foxconn components, Also Technology and Legend, by concentrating on the low-end volume motherboard market targeting business users, Altech national marketing manager, Safa Joumaa, said.
"There isn't really a successful entry-level motherboard distributor in Australia," he claimed. "We've done research and we know that if we bring in a lower end product that can compete with the other manufacturers, such as Gigabyte and Asus, we can do really well."
Altech plans to distribute the boards to generic whitebox builders and larger OEMs as well as pushing single units out to the channel.
To fuel its move into the digital home, the distributor has also taken on the non-exclusive distributorship of SilverStone desktop cases.
"It can sit in the lounge room because it doesn't look like a tower," Joumaa said.
The cases will be used for its new Maestro Pro PC media centre range targeted at the audio visual industry, he said.
