Four decades of remaining in business is an achievement in any sector, and none more so than the still relatively young IT industry, and for that reason SAP is proud to celebrate its 40th anniversary this year.
What began as small operation consisting of five former IBM engineers in Germany has now grown to one of the largest suppliers of enterprise application software operating in over 50 countries worldwide.
Reflecting on the anniversary, SAP A/NZ chief customer officer, Allan Fairhurst, said he was proud to be part of a company such as SAP and its success.
“Backed by 40 years of innovation, our leadership, people, partners, products and strategy are stronger than ever,” he said.
“Values like trust, teamwork and integrity were part of the founders’ charters and still continue to resonate in our company’s culture.”
As to what enabled SAP to remain in business this long while other companies have fallen into the wayside, Fairhurst attributes it to SAP working closely since the beginning with its partners to focus on innovation and deliver the best outcome for its customers.
“By listening to its customers, a company can grow in a sustainable way,” he said.
“Most consumers and business users will pay attention to things they couldn’t do yesterday but can do today.”
According to Fairhurst, SAP Australia will commemorate the 40-year anniversary by taking part in the global celebration program.
Some initiatives put in place by the company include employee song and video contests, and a chance to help a worthy entrepreneur get a business off the ground via the Changemaker Competition.
“This important milestone provides a good opportunity for SAP to share our success story with customers and partners, and to create a sense of pride among employees,” Fairhurst said.
“But most importantly, we will commemorate the 40th anniversary by continuing to focus on innovation and delivering the best results for our customers for the years to come.”
