Former BHP Billiton staffer, David Epstein, has been announced as the new Optus director of corporate and regulatory affairs.
He will join the telco on April 23 and take charge of Optus’ “legal, media, government, and regulatory functions”.
Epstein takes over from Maha Krishnapillai, who left in November last year for a role at Australia Post.
He was previously the BHP Billiton group head of public affairs.
Prior to working with the multinational mining company in 2011, Epstein worked for Qantas in a similar role. He has also held senior roles in three Federal Governments, an industry association, and in the private sector.
Epstein also has experience working for the telecommunications sector.
“I’m looking forward to rejoining the telco industry and working with a competitive consumer brand like Optus which places a high value on its external relationships," he said in a statement.
Epstein will be reporting to Optus consumer CEO, Kevin Russell.
