Tech Pacific's minimum order fee has been waived for purchases of Interplay software products, a sign that the charges are not proving popular with both vendors and resellers.
Tech Pacific confirmed yesterday that Interplay has agreed to pay the minimum order surcharge for its titles, which include the popular PC game, Baldur's Gate.
To qualify for the waiver, resellers must order Interplay products on a separate purchase order.
Tech Pacific took on the sole distributorship of Interplay in September last year, the games publisher ending a five-year distribution relationship with Village Roadshow to take greater control of distribution and games marketing in Australia.
Interplay has also announced a huge price drop on one of the most popular games titles in the PC market - Baldur's Gate 2. From September, the game's retail price will be reduced to $49.95, almost half that of its previous price tag.
Tech Pacific marketing communications manager Fiona Stewart said the waiver was an exception negotiated with Interplay and was "no reflection" on any larger decision to waive the minimum order fee.
