Trend Micro revamps channel partner program

Software vendor pursues Cloud opportunities with updated Affinity Partner Program in 2012

Opportunities for security in the Cloud have led Trend Micro to make changes to its Affinity Partner Program

Originally introduced in 2009, Trend Micro’s channel program in Australia will now be getting a stronger Cloud focus so that its resellers can better meet the demands and opportunities of the Cloud security space.

Trend Micro A/NZ business development and channels director, David Higgins, said the company decided to revamp its Affinity Program after it realised that beyond the Cloud itself , security in the Cloud is a growing market.

“The Cloud looks to be where everybody is heading,” he said.

“As corporations move their data off-site, they will naturally become concerned about security, and there will be opportunities for our partners to take a piece of that growth in our business.”

The timing of the program announcement comes at a time when Trend Micro sets its goals for 2012.

“The beginning of the year is always a time when you review your channel program and where the company is heading overall, and you end up putting together a channel program that is in line with the company’s goals,” Higgins said.

A premium membership tier called Affinity.CLOUD is a new addition to the program, and is designed to aid partners when growing their existing Cloud business.

According to Higgins, Trend Micro hopes to recruit partners with a national presence and a deep understanding of the Cloud for this tier, as well as those with an existing Cloud business.

The other two levels in the program, AffinityONE and Affinity Partners, are also available to partners and offer a variety of incentives and support when reselling Trend Micro’s solutions.
