Data centre provider, Equinix, has appointed Tony Simonsen as the new country manager in Australia.
Simonsen will be responsible for growing Platform Equinix in Australia, as well as pursing business opportunities in the Cloud, mobile and big data technologies.
Based in Sydney, Simonsen will be replacing Darren Mann, who has moved to a business development role at Equinix.
“It is an exciting time for the data centre industry as we enter a new age of data-intensive technologies such as Cloud computing, mobile services and big data analytics, and as businesses seek outsourcing or colocation services to develop their IT infrastructure in a cost-effective and energy-efficient manner,” Simonsen said.
Before coming to Equinix, Simonsen was the Australian managing director of technology firm, Pitney Bowe.
Before that, he was in the Global Services/Technology Solutions division at EMC in Australia and New Zealand.
Equinix Asia-Pacific president, Samuel Lee, expects that Simonsen will play a “pivotal “role” in the expansion of the Platform Equinix in the region.
“We are thrilled to welcome Tony as our new country manager for Australia,” Lee said.
