Quantum snaps up NAS maker Connex

Quantum announced this week that it will acquire Connex, a storage company that makes network-attached storage appliances, in an $US11 million all-cash deal.

Connex, a division of Western Digital, makes mid-range storage appliances, as well as monitoring and management software called SANavigator. The SANavigator products are not included in the pending acquisition, however. Western Digital has spun that part of Connex into a separate company, called SANavigator.

Quantum makes a series of NAS devices call Snap Servers. The company said it plans to integrate Connex's NAS devices into its own in an effort to broaden its product line.

Quantum claims that it has shipped over 70,000 Snap Servers in the last two years.
