Digiland and Tech Pac share HP distie gong

Digiland and Tech Pacific won the major distributor awards when Hewlett-Packard announced its distinguished partner winners at a recent Gold Coast channel conference.

In total, 12 awards were presented as part of HP's recent Partnership Challenge 2001 summit which was attended by over 200 delegates from 150 of the vendor's channel partners.

According to Greg Trigger, HP's channel and alliance manager, the size of HP's wholesale business has become "so big" that "two awards were warranted". As a result Tech Pac and Digiland both received recognition with "Country Wholesaler Awards", which Trigger said were effectively "top distributor" awards.

Digiland's national sales and marketing manager, Wayne Faulkhead, said that Digiland's relationship with HP is a strong and growing one. He said the receipt of this award was a "huge win" for Digiland and an indication of the commitment it has made to the brand. He thinks HP are "doing the right thing by its channel" and claimed the vendor's solutions were still a "very major part" of Digiland's business.

"HP is a growth partner for Digiland," Faulkhead said. "We don't sell any other brand of PCs and it probably represents half our turnover. Our business is split about 50/50 these days, between HP-based solutions and components."

Applied Micro Systems (AMS) also left the conference with three awards in its kit bag after winning the Business PC Reseller Award, Country Reseller Award and Top Imaging and Printing Systems Reseller Award.

Centari Systems was the recipient of the volume-based Network Storage Solutions Reseller Award. Trigger also pointed out that the national reseller is HP's biggest shifter of boxes at the reseller tier. To show that shifting boxes is not all that Centari does well, the company also received one of four Value-Added Reseller (VAR) Awards that were handed out on the night.

Leading Solutions, Netbridge Systems and Tri Point also received honourable mentions in this VAR category, while Unix and high-end server player Vigiltech was named as the winner of the Super VAR Award. Tech Pacific won a Value-Added Wholesaler Award.
