The Australia Day app is a detailed event guide and planner that will help keep you entertained on a day traditionally filled with beers, barbecues, and lamb.
With a simplistic interface that contains only a few essential features, the app allows you to keep track of events that you like so you don’t end up at another run-down public park waiting for the fireworks so you can go home.
The events tab offers a comprehensive list of activities in NSW. Each is equipped with a start and finish time, mini-map, and a brief of what will happen.
It also contains a search function that allows you to input a key word so you don’t have to scroll through everything. You can also add events to the favourites tab.
The app’s map, although a useful guide most of the time, appears to contain numerous misplaced pins. For a portion of the entries, events are pinned to the wrong location, so you may find yourself partying in WA, or at a Pacific Ocean extravaganza.
A quick Google search may be a good idea prior to venturing out if you are unsure.
To ensure you’re up to date with all new events, the ‘update’ tab can be used at any time.
Pros: Full schedule of events with detail, can be filtered, map with tracking, and a favourites list.
Cons: NSW only, map has numerous misplaced pins.
Verdict: A useful app for planning your public holiday and keeping track of what’s happening.
