Keeping in theme with the ‘just back from the holidays’ (well it IS still January), the Calorie Counter & Diet Tracker app may be perfect for your New Year’s resolution health kick or to shed those kilos you gained over the break.

It works by taking down your information such as current weight, level of exercise and age, then your goal weight, to formulate a diet and fitness plan that works for you.

It will give you a number on how many calories you should consume per day which can be balanced out with exercise.

The app already has an extensive food database with calorie information preloaded which makes things easier.

There is even a barcode scanner to easily find foods you have eaten. It also has calorie burning information for some type of exercises. Basically it takes out all the hard work of calculating your calorie input and output.

The layout is simple and easy to read and the app itself is easy to navigate because being on a health kick is hard enough without having to rely on a fiddly app.

For additional motivation, MyFitnessPal allows you to connect with friends with the same app to track each other’s progress.

Best of all? This is a free app.
