BCN Technology has been appointed a national distributor for VIA's new C3 processor.
VIA is a relative newcomer to the market, only recently opening an Australian office. BCN managing director Ken Lowe believes the new partnership will enhance the distributor's product portfolio.
"The value section of the market is growing rapidly and we have great confidence that the VIA C3 processor will be readily accepted in the Australian market," he said.
The new processor offers low power consumption and is targeted at the value PC market, as well as information PCs, notebooks and digital appliances. The first of its kind built using the 0.15 micron manufacturing process, the VIA C3 features a x86 processor die size - one of the smallest on the market. Billed as "cool processing", the chip's heat dissipation properties make it ideal for use in notebook environments. The processor is socket 370 compatible and is available now at speeds of 700MHz and 733MHz. It is compatible with Microsoft Windows operating systems and most mainstream software programs and Internet applications.
"We see great potential in the Australian market, particularly from forming strong partnerships like that with BCN Technology," said VIA's director of international marketing, Richard Brown.
