U.S. police are investigating the theft of a semi-tractor trailer transporting $US1.7 million worth of BlackBerry Playbooks stolen on Thursday afternoon in Chesterfield.
According to Research in Motion (RIM), the incident occurred while the driver of the trailer stopped for a break to have some food and a shower.
Approximately an hour later, when the driver returned to where he had parked, he found the truck missing.
RIM said that the driver was shipping 22 pallets of the tablet computers from its distribution center in Plainfield to Ontario, Canada.
There were no tracking devices connected to the tablets. However, investigators suspect the stolen goods are taken to the Miami area.
The police have no suspects as of yet.
RIM has been recently offering significant worldwide discounts for its Playbook in an attempt to clear out the inventory following average sales of the tablet.
