APP OF THE DAY: Adobe Reader

A bare bones reader that does not allow for editing PDF documents, just like its PC counterpart

Adobe Reader
Cost: Free | Developer: Adobe Systems Inc. | Platform: Windows Phone 7 | Version: 9.0.0.0 | 1 MB |

The PDF format is invaluable for sharing and reading documents on PCs, and Adobe has expanded this convenience to Windows Phone 7.

If you have used the PDF reader on PC already, the basic function of the app are the same, which allows the user to load up PDF files for easy viewing on the smartphone.

For added integration, PDFs files can be opened directly from the attachment in an email or from a link in the web browser.

Zoom controls are handled with multi-touch gestures such as pinching and double-tapping, and the document can be orientated in portrait and landscape views by simply tilting the device.

While the app supports the major PDF specifications, such as JBIG2 and JPEG2000, it is a bare bones reader that does not allow for editing PDF documents, just like its PC counterpart.

Pros: Get access to the leading document standard on your Windows Phone.

Cons: A very basic PDF reader that skimps on the features.

Verdict: It’s free and it lets you read PDFs on your smartphone, but not much else.
